In 1976, NACOG was designated the area-wide water quality planning agency tasked with developing a regional Water Quality Management Plan as required by Section 208 of the Clean Water Act. This plan identifies current and future wastewater treatment needs in the region. Comprehensive updates were executed in 1993 and 2002.
NACOG maintains a 208 Water Quality Technical Review Committee for the purpose of advising staff and making recommendations to the Regional Council regarding amendments to the 208 Area Wide Water Quality Management Plan. NACOG is also a member of the State Water Quality Management Working Group recommending to the director of ADEQ on amendments to area-wide water quality management plans.
